were it not

Quiet Girl
I would liken you
To a night without stars
Were it not for your eyes.
I would liken you
To a sleep without dreams
Were it not for your songs.
Langston Hughes

“I have learnt how to live… How to be In the world and Of the world, and not just to stand aside and watch. And I will never, never again run away from life. Or from love, either…"
Sabrina

-----------
You must realize that something is happening to you, that life has not forgotten you, that it holds you in its hand and will not let you fall.
Rainer Maria Rilke

Things I Love Thursday (ok, Sunday)

* Drinking gin and watching Old School Doctor Who

* Being 21!!!!!

* Getting wished happy birthday by bouncers and grocery store clerks when I show them my ID

* Cleaning and organizing my room - A place for everything and everything in its place!

* Wearing new dresses with new coats and new tights

* Birthday dinners at IHOP

* Three day weekends!

* Wandering in the desert, exploring holes and climbing mountains

* (finally) Hanging all my posters + christmas lights in my room

* Watching the L Word with my roomies

* Hiliariously inaccurate historical Doctor Who episodes from the 60s (The Romans… LOL)

* Likewise, amazing 60s hair from Doctor Who episodes from the 60s

* Browsing the library catalog and reserving new books and old movies

* Jersey Shore themed parties (gotta beat that beat!)

Give up on yourself. Begin taking action now, while being neurotic or imperfect, or a procrastinator or unhealthy or lazy or any other label by which you inaccurately describe yourself. Go ahead and be the best imperfect person you can be and get started on those things you want to accomplish before you die. Shoma Morita

these kids are awesome.

…Your light is seen, your heart is known, your soul is cherished by more people than you might imagine…If you knew how many others have been touched in wonderful ways by you, you would be astonished. If you knew how many people feel so much for you, you would be shocked…You are far more wonderful than you think you are… Rest with that. Rest easy with that. Breathe again. You are doing fine. More than fine. Better than fine. You’re doin’ great. So relax. And love yourself today. ~Neale Donald Walsch (via gatekeeper)

The Wisdom of Children

I. A Conversation at the Grownup Table, as Imagined at the Kids’ Table

MOM: Pass the wine, please. I want to become crazy.

DAD: O.K.

GRANDMOTHER: Did you see the politics? It made me angry.

DAD: Me, too. When it was over, I had sex.

UNCLE: I’m having sex right now.

DAD: We all are.

MOM: Let’s talk about which kid I like the best.

DAD: (laughing) You know, but you won’t tell.

MOM: If they ask me again, I might tell.

FRIEND FROM WORK: Hey, guess what! My voice is pretty loud!

DAD: (laughing) There are actual monsters in the world, but when my kids ask I pretend like there aren’t.

MOM: I’m angry! I’m angry all of a sudden!

DAD: I’m angry, too! We’re angry at each other!

MOM: Now everything is fine.

DAD: We just saw the PG-13 movie. It was so good.

MOM: There was a big sex.

FRIEND FROM WORK: I am the loudest! I am the loudest!

(Everybody laughs.)

MOM: I had a lot of wine, and now I’m crazy!

GRANDFATHER: Hey, do you guys know what God looks like?

ALL: Yes.

GRANDFATHER: Don’t tell the kids.
